Humor me here:

I love what Chip Davis did with the ugly drag, that is, his cut out on the shaft to let a dp fit in. That being said, I have sabertooth and JC drags in my arsenal, which don't have that cut out.

Other than a drill press and a die grinder, what's a cost effective way of putting that in? Wife would murder me if I bought a plasma cutter (pretty sure I'd deserve to die). Thoughts? Thanks.

And what's the reason for cutting a slot In a drag to hold a DP?

Hard ground/cement where you can't get the peg in.

If you use FB dogproofs, they sell a bracket you can weld onto a drag or screw to tree/barn support.

I have heard hagz brackets can support some other brands but I haven't tried that yet.

1 option in such hard ground would be to use a coon stilt. It is a part of a pvc pipe, oh about 2.5" long, attached to a wooden stake. You can then pound the stake into the h20 right along shore. Snap the dp into the pvc and when you get a coon, the dp will pop off the stilt into the h20. That of course is assuming you have open h20 at your sight.

Otherwise maybe make a pilot hole in the hard ground, perhaps by hammering a piece of rebar ~4" into the ground.

Heck, maybe you could even zip tie the dp to a really small scrub tree.

Or go with what Sniper said.

Lets you drop your trap from the truck/ utv and go, without stopping to pound it in.

Locklear has a video with saber tooths and freedom brand dp holders attached to drag hes baiting and walking. Drops the drag/dp combo in a coon trail and never stops. That's quick. Next day coons less than ten foot from its original location!

That's the last thing I would be doing. I would put nothing past that dude. If He was born 200 years ago he would be selling locklears magic elixir from town to town. LOL

I use an old large screwdriver and hammer it into the ground to make a hole for the stake.

I think you are correct,a drill press and angle grinder might be the way but I believe it would be a lot of work.

Why could you not just weld a washer to the shaft put your dp threw it?

That set (video) looks like trouble.
Single wire + Coon = trouble
Short chain + Drag = trouble
Trap & Chain openly exposed to hooking onto drag (after catch) = a cluster = trouble
