Any ideas as to why you’d be able to catch a dozen or so dog teasing squirrels on a tree limb in a 110 and then have the trap fired daily and hanging empty for a week? Bait would be either a slice of corn on the cob or a date. Both impaled on the trigger and covered in peanut butter. Nothing has changed except for the no squirrel part.

I haven't had good luck with bait on the trigger.Pulling on the bait puts them almost out of the strike zone.If they get stung, they may not be back.I'd rather put the bait so the animal has to move through the trap to get it.You could set it in a box or two 110's on a limb with the bait between.Good luck.

As taximan says. Make a box....or someway for them to PUSH past the trigger.

Or use two snares with the bait in between them.

#1 foothold with peanut butter and bird seed on the pan works good too. It becomes a body gripper!

press the bird seed into the peanut butter and it works. I am 1 for 1 on this tactic for a red squirrel, but a friend who told me about it has used it several times.

These are some great ideas. So I can set it up like a marten box and they’ll enter it? I’m perfectly happy with the ones that are nipped and never come back. I don’t really care if I kill them or not. I just want them gone. I got 3 mt curs that come unglued when one parks itself in the tree and shakes its tail at them and tells them off. Mrs. Badgerman instructed me to fix the problem. Gone squirrels are as good as dead ones.

Want to borrow a trail cam?

I only had a empty fired trap a couple times this summer. I use 150s with an apricot on the trigger with very good success.

Nail a 2x4 to a tree at a 60 degree angle, with 2 150s held in place with coni brackets 3 feet apart with a small pan of sunflower seeds attached to the tree where the 2x4 is fastened. Let them find and feed on the sunflower seeds for a couple days before the traps are activated. Whack, Whack repeat till their all gone. Fried squirrels are good..

Thanks 10bands. I’m not too worried about it. They’re gone for now and these guys packed me up with good ideas for when they return. If Annie didn’t go completely psychotic when the squirrels were around I wouldn’t mind them too much.
