But ADC, you make only 1 set over and over, out of your truck.Your method works for Iowa roadside snaring. Sure would not work on my snare lines 80% of the time. Not exactly. I snare coons that way and a few fox but my coyotes and beaver are two different methods not on the roadside. One thing they do all have in common is the same size support wire and same sized cable. I've tried several other cable sizes and different support wires and I have no desire to use them again. And I can't see how anyone could use those little curly cue wire whammies They are just plain aggravating In my opinion. X2

ADC, How do you set beaver snares. I'v seen your road side set up. Basically just a shorter killpole. I snare them on land usually 2' from the waters edge in a fake slide.

I use a second 3/32 ferrule. Fits my support wire great and of course holds the cable great. Works great for me too.
The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

It certainly doesn't fit tight on 3/32 cable, unless your crimping them??? I want my supports solid so I can use my snares almost like pan tension on a trap. Meaning I set the lock lower on the side so it has to pass up over the top a small amount before it fires shut, during that time I don't want the cable, the support wire to give AT ALL. Nice and solid until it fires shut. = all neck snared critters (even beaver and coon) and very very few knocked down or blown down snares from small animals, birds, and wind.

I can set my snares in any direction I want. Easy firing so that they go off with just a touch, or set the loop a bit higher so it's harder firing. I don't know what size the wire is. I got it in bulk from a place that sells rebar. They used it as tie wire. Fits perfect in a ferrule with no slack. I use 3/32 7x7. The cable never moves in the ferrule, but you can adjust loop size easily. If my wire support is more than about 2 1/2 feet from the (usually a tree) the wire does sag some. I just double it then. To attach the support wire to a tree I cut it off on an angle with cutters so it is sharp, then bend about 3/4 of it to 90 degrees and hammer it into the tree like a nail with the side of the cutters. Really fast. If it is below about -5, only on hardwoods I keep a 12v drill with me and drill a pilot for the support wire because the sap is frozen and the wire doesn't nail into the tree easily. Using the drill slows you down a bit, but not much.
