Has anyone used this type of trap dye? You're supposed to be able to cold dye your traps by soaking for a few days or you can boil them. If it works it might be a nice way to prep traps when it's hot and don't feel like boiling a big kettle. Thanks

I've used it for years. Not sure if you can use it cold but the traps come out good boiling them.

No, have not used Ricard's

I have read of trappers that cold tannin treated traps in barrels of such as maple leaves, hemlock bark or Spanish moss, it takes longer, several weeks? Can also sink in a tannin rich bog like a slough, walk the traps right down into the muck and leave for a month or so; I used to know a few trappers that did this every summer.

Heat probably loosens rust when the metal expands and heat accelerates reactions of chemicals so the time need for reaction is greatly reduced.

Thanks guys, I was trying to cold soak them but I'm thinking boiling might be better. I've cold dipped some but have had better results boiling in the past, thanks for the info. !

Using the liquid dye, how long should you boil traps?

"Yeah Henry. Yeah, it's up there.. A whole valley full of prime beaver. A man could live easy the rest of his days."

I like using his liquid stuff over the powder. Leaves a cleaner trap after I take it out of the boil, not that it matters, but I'm a little OCD on cleaning K9 Traps.

I would boil for around 45 minutes. Seems to work alright, you could probably go a bit longer or shorter.
