I have some areas I trap for mink but coon are also a possibility. The area is either to muddy or to rocky for rebar or cable stakes and no roots or trees to wire off on, and to shallow to drown. I was thinking of dropping off some 18" x8" logs or maybe 1/2 cinder blocks to tie on to . Of coarse I'd like to go I light as I can and still keep a coon from getting to far. Any suggestions ? -Thanks

i cut 6 ft 2 in in diameter saplings from home for such purpose.use them more than i thought.more about tangling ability than weight.i also use 3 dozen coyote grapples on 6 ft of chain.

Just use a coyote drag. Coons won’t be far away from the set.

I use between 4-6 foot sapling that is around 2 inches in diameter. They usually tangle up within a couple yards of the set.

I sometimes use the old 6 to 8 foot steel fence posts.

A big Boar can drag a full block quite a ways, leaves a massive trail tho.

Yes had a big one take a cinder block up a creek bank and out into a flat mowed area for everyone driving by to see.
They are strong!

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I fill 1/2 gallon and gallon milk jugs, as well as the 2 gallon kitty litter containers with concrete. I run 3/32 cable down through the handle, make a loop and crimp it shut, leaving a small loop outside the jug to attach to. They store easy, don't scuff up the boat. The kitty litter containers weigh in about 44 lbs, great for drowning beaver. I'll mix and match the milk jugs for coon, mink and rat weights.

Pound for pound, otter is the strongest animal we have.I am glad they are not the size of a wolf or bear.
