Do you think muskrats set off beaver traps very often?

I've caught quite a few rats In 330s. They must just be unlucky. LOL

A great BG for rats was the 210 a 220 with only one spring. You could buy them that way.

They do set them off quite abit. You notice it more by rats caught by the tail when you run magnum bend #330s. They of course escape on a non magnum trap. Fish set them off too.

And don't think some beaver don't know how to set off a #330 without getting caught.

A 330 with circle trigger.Set with trigger notch on bottom. Makes a good muskrat /Mink trap.

I think most rats make it through the Dukes because the trigger is so non sensitive, even though it's a smaller opening. With a Victor of Belishe, I get a lot more rats.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I get them in beaver channels and crossovers a lot. Always either by the tail or right behind the ears. When an 11 inch sauvageau hits a muskrat behind the head its lights out instantly....a real mess to skin mr floppyhead.

I adjust the throw for the triggers to 1/2 inch by tapping on the top of the hood. Most by the tail or like Hutch by the head, I prefer the tail LOL. If you don't want rats fireing 330s just set the trigger to the side. not 100 percent but it helps. I do this on summer control work and Iv'e watch rats swim thru unscathed. Ive also found rats floating nearby after being struck during fur season. Most were from 330s without full jaws closure. Which is another reason for BGs with full jaw closure.

Common sense catches alot of fur..

I believe that most dry fired #330's are caused by muskrats. Also some are from beaver refusals where they turn around at the trap and cause a massive water disturbance.

I’ve taken a handful of rats in 330’s when I have the trigger baited with aspen sticks. I never put 2 + 2 together until the Beav said Aspen/Popular is one of his go to muskrat baits

I caught 7 In 330 set in dam break set. I tune at least one notch on my 330 and 280s that will catch mink and rat.
