Had to release a beautiful cat this morning. Never in a million years would I thought it was as hard as it was. Mad do they fight the catch pole and scramble. I didn't dare release it with me being outside so I rolled my truck window down, left a couple inches open and released it. Well, then it ended up under my buddies truck who helped me. I'd rather release 100 timber wolves than have to do that again.

8 seconds on a bull?
An hour with a giant bluefin?

Gimme a cat on a catch pole anyday for an adrenaline rush.

My first catch ever was a large male tom out of season.
One of the most exhilarating experiences I've ever had.
I parked about 30 yards away and left my door open.

I had read they run for the first cover well he ran right at my truck and I got to shouting and waving that catch pole. He stopped under the front tire and ran for the closest fence line.
Won't ever leave my door open when releasing a cat or a coon again .

Great time

I let quite a few people ride my line with me. I always love the look on somebody’s face when they walk up to a cat and you say well, you ready to cut it loose? Most of my line, I walk so I’ve never had to worry about one running under the truck, but I’ve let them loose and they won’t run off several times.

I released a big tom last year took him about 30 yards from the trap. He ran back and wedged himself between the fender and tire of my arctic cat 4 wheeler.

I once released the farmers dog. I had left the door open On the truck. You know what happened that dam dog wouldn't let me back In. I had to go and find that farmer. I think he Is still laughing.

Use a plastic tote with a notch. Much easier on trapper and animal.

I seem to release at least one a year, some are very docile, I’ve had to wait sometimes for the remake of my set because they just lay there out of the trap and off the catch pole. I think Nugent wrote a song about my last years release, I won’t be authoring any books on my technique lol.

Quit fooling around, just knock it unconscious and let it out of the trap.

You have to be very care full with cats when using a choke stick. It doesn't take much to kill a cat.

Smack on the beak with an axe handle puts them out cold for about 30 seconds.

Yotes it will put down for 30 sec. A cat will not handle a smack well... Better to use a catch pole. Just be sure your loop is loose enough not to choke an tight enough they can't escape. Lean over the pole an release. Easy pezy
