The ones that are harmful to humans are a different worm it infects the brain, found often in smaller children that put the poop in their mouth when playing outside or from family pets.

Why are people so scared of dyeing? It is part of life. How many people do you thing die from stepping on a coon turd? You are not 100% safe from anything, but the chances of dying from stepping on a coon turd are so low you could not read the odds. Even bare foot. Get a grip.

Don't want to overly cautionary but PLEASE google "roundworm migrates to human eyes". I personally know a trapper that got it and was only discovered by his Optometrist when he went for an eye exam due to sight issue. :-(

I think MJM is just trying to say the chance of you getting sick from what you described is almost non existant.

Yes, I know about them migrating to the eyes and brain. That's what has be so terrified. Did you trapper friend recover any of his vision? Was it only one or both eyes? :-( Only one eye that I know of. His Optometrist as far as he told me, said there was nothing that could be done at that time to remove the parasite effectively :-(

If I had a child or grandson crawling around I’d be e sure to be careful if I was in a infected area not all areas have the problem, the last place I knew of was IL many years ago pet coon and infant.

Did you really do that? And the kid was really okay? How long ago was this? Did I do this??? NO! I just knew the guy. He was 55 and this was 6 /7 (?) years ago. He moved after a divorce, so I haven't seen or talked to him since then.

The Raccoon round worm (Baylis Ascaris) is very dangerous. Raccoons like to use horizontal surfaces such as wood piles or rain gutters as a toilet. Google the CDC claiming it is one of the most important emerging threats to people.
Ocular migrant, roundworms from dog or cats migrating into eyes happens to 75 people per year mostly children in the US. Google the picture. There is also visceral migrant which is roundworm larvae migrating through your internal organs.
14% of the US population will test positive for this common roundworm. Monthly deworming of dogs and cats keeps this potential low. Keep cats out of the kids sandbox!

I've helped a lot of farmers clean out old barns and sheds that had so much coon crap we used scoop shovels to remove it , then used compressed air to blow out the fine stuff which really stirred it up in the air we were breathing. None of us ever got worms from it , so I'd say you'll be fine. Also , worked in a fur house skinning coons and ate sandwiches all the time without washing hands never got anything from that either. I'll say it . . . you're either a liar or a DAM FOOL!
