I caught a coyote this morning and had a little time before heading to work. So I figure I'll skin it real quick. Well in my hast, I tore it in two mad Is there any way salvage it or is it junk?sick

You could sew it and get it tanned.

You tore a coyote in half?! Remind me to never arm wrestle you. You can sew it and put it on a board. I’d probably junk it.

Wow, you tore it in 2!

I'd junk it.

Would you care to explain how you tore it in two? Coyotes have rather thick hides compared to a fox or a possum. It takes a lot of strength to damage a coyote that badly.

You might attempt to sew it together. If you did a really good job it might slip by a buyer. Just not sure if the effort would be worth it on a late October PA coyote. Now if you were in Montana or North Dakota...........

It might be plausible to think it ripped when turning it fur out but skinning- that took some energy. Can you tan it and get a hat made? I would have no idea but maybe they can hide the carnage in a seam?

badgerman50, you would win hands down. smile I have little strength left in hands due to tennis elbow issues.

I was using a skinning machine and trying to go too fast. I did tear the first opossum I skinned, but no problems with anything else. The coyote was fairly fresh too. Guess that's what gave me confidence to pull harder.

I have sewn some large holes with good results, but not the whole way around a coyote. blush I know a guy that ties flies, maybe he can use it.

A skinning machine - that explains everything!!

Simply seeing two pieces back together should be relatively easy, though time consuming. I know a trapper that sewed together a bobcat pelt that had been cut into 5 pieces.(long story). He did a good enough job that he fooled the fur buyer that paid good money for it. smile
