Good day to you all. Still a little warm down here in the south, and too many snakes to start trapping full speed. Hopefully some of you boys up north will send us a cold front! I have a friend that has some bobcat and fox issues around his chufa / turkey patches. The chufa plot is in some young pines about 10 years old "very thick" haven't been thinned. Just down the hill from the plot it transitions to nasty creek swamp. The varmints are circling the plots watching the turkeys. I cant put the foot traps around the edge of the plot or the trails because of so many deer and turkeys. My question is, I have about a dozen coon boxes / cubby's. I saw some pics on here where the boys up north put boxes on a tree about 3 or 4' off the ground. Open side w/ trap up so that the varmint has to go down in the box. Do you think that will work on the bobcats down here? If this has been asked before I do apologize. As always I value your opinions and advise. "Bayou"

I'd try blind sets, no lure/bait around the plots, if it was me.

A leaning pole set, like used for marten, may work too, with foothold or 220/280, IF LEGAL.

thx for the reply. I may try the leaning post set. I'm afraid that if I set them on the edge of the plots the deer will set off my traps. They are grazing on natural clover and rye that has come back up in the plots. My friend has some old Cypress boards laying around under his barn. Was thinking about leaning some of those up against the pines and setting a foot hold trap.

from my scouting cats love checking out round pipes big enough they can walk thru! a few scrap pieces of baited 20" culvert pipe in strategic locations could thin out the herd! You could use either footholds or 280s if legal! Me I'd choose footholds. a notch cut the shape of your trap in the bottom on both ends will take anything that can fit. I use a similar set up baited with beavers or ground hogs. Low maintence and very effective! I don't forsee it catching a yote!
