Im interested in trying them out with long chains was hoping to hear from guys with experience using them! The good the bad and the ugly! Im a bit leary of them so my first one is a total over kill 36" x 1/2" smooth rod. Attached to a tricked out monty # 2 dogless, with 6' of #2 twist link chain, two crunch proofs and two stop shock springs! Any advice would be great thanks in advance

The shock springs aren't needed.

My advice would be to treat them like pipe dream/grub stake sets. You want to hide the pipe in the grass or under debris like a cache set.

not trying to be a smart butt who told you 20" ? Bout everything I heard from him or LT Grey ( the originator) say 32" standard. Unless your using the mini's but those are used with drags.
But the general principal us you want a long chain 5' or so they cannot get directly over it . It's crazy you can stand directly over one of these fulley driven in the ground ,twist it and pull it right up with not much effort. So you need that long chain , unless they can hop 5' in the air their going to be side pulling it. Also you need to have a loose stake ring ,something like J.c Conners Chestnut ring, a big lap ring,or a good size Doing. That connect can't find.

But as got setting basically what snipper said. Probably the easiest way is to pound it in a grass clumpand put your trap to the down wind side.

And lemme go ahead and say that if your somewhere it's really Rocky or the ground freezes real bad it's really gonna suck trying to drive and remove these.

Thanks wolfy all the videos I seen clint do I never saw a drag but that don't mean anything! They interest me for the ease in removing sets! I have to jockey around Mos never ending deer seasons on a few farms. This method would make trapping them a bit less back breaking! I remember L.T talking about them along time ago. I did make up some for coon water trapping! And will say they worked flawless! Power wise between a yote and coon way different scenario. I've often wondered why more guys don't utilize them. The way I was brought up if its to good to be true well then! But I find that's not always the case! I'll never be to proud to borrow another guys methods if it helps put yotes on strechers. Heard this a million times on here speed and simplicity accumulate fur! Drags worry me! I've got way to many farmers that will go brush hog or disk on a whim! Buying thousand dollar tractor tires isn't high up on my priority list! Or losing propertys! Hence the reason im looking for a setup that's fast in fast out! LOL but im not after a system that will lose me a pile of traps either! Majority of the ground I trap is agriculture ground very few rock! the length of the stake was a guess! but they appeared very short! To short for my peace of mind!

Tony I would not be too worried using that setup. I used 20” smooth stakes with 30” of chain for years before I found out about earth anchors.

is there a reason you stopped using them don? To me removing one would be way simpler than carring a earth anchor puller! I can see not using them if your losing traps from pullouts! But from what I read you was just using the smooth rod as a anchor! this is a attractor and anchor in one small package.Pipe dream set on steroids

We had a guy bring some 4 footers to our workshop last weekend...good thing it was a wet weekend as they were a bear to pull up. 32 comes up pretty easy compared to earth anchors with a puller.

Tony I know exactly what your talking about and see no issues with your setup. I switched to earth anchors after meeting pogo at the national one year. It’s a solid method of anchoring a trap but after fighting with removing them from frozen ground I will be going back to my old way on a limited basis this winter to re evaluate!

my health issues pulling earth anchors kills me! I rely on my 4 wheeler to pull sets! So im passing up great spots on account of knowing what goes in will have to come out. Pretty certain the setup is sound. But want to cut the fat achieving a more lite stream line approach! Earth anchors solve a lot of issues but also add some. A few extra dollars in chain is worth not dragging out the 4 wheeler to pull sets.

1 of our customers bought 2 dozen to start with 2 yrs ago.
Then bought 3 more dozen last year.
He loves them on land sets for yotes cats and fox, and is finally, this year, setting for beaver using them too.
Our website has Clints beaver demo and our FB page has the land setting demo.
We stay sold out on them...every time I get a couple dozen made, BAM, they sell.
Hope this helps

I used portable pockets for coyotes last year for the first time. They are an awesome system that is simple, fast, and can work many ways. Our ground is clay and they work fine with 30 inch of rod, frozen ground is no problem and you can use a cordless hammerdrill with a concrete bit if needed. 90% of the time I can just push down and twist on them to put in the ground, no hammer. I quit rebar stakes a few years ago, then went to wolf fangs. I honestly may switch to all portable pockets and sabertooth drags, makes pulling traps a lot easier.

So how many coyotes did you catch with the tin can on a stick set up?

I just can't see my self going that route.

Mine are 28" since that's what length the 1/2" drawbolts are that I have.

Dude with 5 dozen has clay too, and has not had any pulled.

He leaves 8-12" outa the ground and covers with debris EXCEPT the hole, looks like a 3 sided brush dome, like in our video I suggested y'all watch

Last year I caught 5 coyotes, 3 red fox, 1 bobcat in the portable pocket system. I have left them 12" out of the ground, flush with the ground and covered with grass. Covered with small rocks, etc. I like it, but still like variations of dirtholes and traditional flat sets also.
