Hey Everyone,
This is my first year trapping coons, I got permission on a business and I found a heavily used trail and set a couple DP's along the trail. First night I connected with a nice sized female, then went a day with no action. Since then, about every other day I have my traps cleaned out, sometimes they are sprung and sometimes they are still set. I am using full size marshmallow's and I am spearing the bottom most marshmallow on the trigger. Is there any tricks I could try that will decrease my misses?

What brand DPs are you running? Some of the clean outs could be rodent.

I am running Duke. I am not seeing any evidence of mice.

I like to position the DP so the trigger is oriented horizontally instead of vertically. They tend to grab the trigger more.

Thank you Shaky Jake, that makes a ton of sense. I never thought about that, but it I was grabbing a bar I would prefer to have it oriented to the way my hand would naturally grab it.

Also, shove a marshmallow on the trigger. Coons like the soft feeling rather than the cold metal feeling of a bare trigger.

I'd put some cat food under the trigger then the marshmallow with food again and I usually put a paste bait around the top or get some cheap squeeze strawberry jelly and top it with that.

I put the marshmallow UNDER the trigger and fill about an inch with dry cat food and run a lil trail from trap to waters/trails edge
