Second year trapping and just had my first trap dug up by what I assume was a coyote. Didn't even trip the trap. Are there other critters that can and are able to dig up traps? And what's the best advice to keep traps from being dug up?

Coyote are the last culprit to ever think of on digging a trap. Fox and coon are the normal culprits. They like to dig around in fresh, soft dirt that people like to leave around their trap beds.

I’ve had coyotes flip traps like that. Two things make it happen, a trap not bedded rock solid or a trap that’s been contaminated with lure or bait.

Coons are notorious for it. Bed the trap better.

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Agree with bad karma and SNIPERBBB...
Some folks will tell you that I sometimes put out up to 4 traps at a set just to git ride of the darn coon. There's no truth to that!!
Nothing more frustrating than having one of those bandits wreck my K-9 sets.

Thats why I use drags...just have to rebed the trap afterwards.

I have a friend that is trapping this year and has had several dug traps. He keeps saying contamination and I go to what most have siad here. Bed trap solid. I pack my coyote traps in. Rain is a good indicator of solid trap bedding. If you have to rebed traps after a rain they are not bedded solid enough to begin with. That is my thoughts on that subject.

Wish I had more time to trap....
