I'm thinking about buying some Sleepy Creek #2 double long springs for coon blind trail sets. Just wanting some input on expierence. Also, do those traps have the same base plate weakness as the #3, #4's?

#2 sleepy creek Longsprings are a great trap. I would rethink using Longsprings for trail sets. I know I have shown a few pictures Using #3 longsprings in the past but I switched away from them because of the time and labor it took to bed them. In the winter with frozen ground it was shear misery! In the fall soil I can still bed almost 3 coil springs to one long. Not that it is expensive but my peat moss usages went way down going to a coil spring.
Plus coon chew really bad in a dry land situation. You probably will need to do something to prevent it or you will suffer some loss.
Double jaw traps are king for dry land coon.
No Bs KOs
Duke 1.5s
Both come double jawed from the factory.
I run #2 Bridgers with my own double jaws welded in for trail sets. The new wolfcreek and dukes #2s would also work with that mod.
To do it over again I think I would look really hard at the bridger 1.75 and weld in a double jaw and put a Mike Kelly pan on it. I like the pan post on that trap.
I run a pile of trail sets. I have a couple videos on YouTube about the jaw mods and trail sets.

Good luck!

God bless
Dustin

I know the #11's can be had with a factory double jaw. I was just looking @ the #2 since sleepy is closing its door and I'm not sure who if anyone will ever make new #2's ever again. I also understand your points about the 1.5 and 1.75 coilspring, a lot more trap for your dollar and more jaw spread. I'm a sucker for big iron, but more importantly an increase in catch percent vs small traps. I also am trying to support made in America if possible, hence sleepy creek. I have bridger and Duke traps, but I've been buying MB and sleepy lately. Coyotes have bent all my bridger #3 spring pins, not impressed. And I've modified my dukes so much that they are ok traps now, but MB 650 would have been a lot cheaper to start with.

RCW - I make a spring pin keeper that prevents those pins from getting bent.

Those look like a fine product however, they are a bandaid not a solution and they add cost to your traps. If you add that up its just a lot easier to spend the money on good iron upfront. I started with Duke #4 and bridger #3 and have add good chains, baseplates (Duke), laminations, spring pins (Duke), paws I trip pans, and they are now ok but not awesome. I'm sure I have $15 a piece added to my "good buy" $12 dukes. But I learned to just buy quality to start with, a lot of good iron that is ready to go by many mfgr. My 2 cents.
