Just curious if putting a coyote set at an unoccupied groundhog (woodchuck) hole is worth trying? The hole is in a cut corn field and the groundhog hasn't used it since the corn was cut. There's coyote tracks within 3 feet of hole as they pass through the area.

He will be back, Put bait in the hole and set your trap.

Place trap in front of the hole and one on back side of hole. Make sure it's legal to set den holes some state's allow and some don't.

I set within 5 feet to 100 feet of the hole (5', our state law), Make 2, 3 or 4 sets there. I never set 'in the hole' it's self. I just make dirtholes & pee sets near hole or travel way to hole.
Canines know where the GH holes are.

Pic below, behind our local mall is in the middle of a field. Groundhog hole is the key factor for choosing this location.

On the above mall pics, when I was making the sets, the farmer started spreading manure. He stopped to say Hi. I showed him where my gear was and told him I was planting three traps at GH hole. He said, OK, I wont hit 'em and I'll spread the other field. He did a good job and you can see the manure line...lol
I could see this set from long distance. I saw 3 Fox laying there that morning. As I drove closer, one ran away. Third set untouched. I did catch more Fox there that week.

this year I tried a ground hog hole set but right at the hole. The coyotes do come and check the set but do not climb up on the mound where the trap is set. Kind of like a extra large dirt hole set.
