Generally traps of a given size will be of similar strength and dimensions across manufacturers, though exact jaw spread and other features will vary slightly. For example a Duke 1.5 will be pretty much the same as a Bridger 1.5. Some brands are built beefier then others, but physical dimensions will be pretty close. If you are interested in exact dimensions (for example in PA we are limited to a maximum jaw spread of 6.5”) then I would suggest checking out the website of one of the trapping suppliers for that information. Both F&T Post and Minisota Trapline Products should have more details on their websites. Hopefully that provides the information that you’re looking for. Ralph

I absolutely love mb550s for coyote, but I understand they can be a bit spendy for a kid starting out. I trapped some coyotes in duke #2 , and #4 but I never tried #3s. These days it’s either a Bridger #3 or an mb 550 for me. In reality if he does his part and pays attention any trap #2 or greater will do the trick. The main thing is not to get discouraged by no catches or misses. We all have those, and I’ve found that if you want to learn, the ones you don’t catch will teach you so much more than the ones you do catch.
