Any users of Hawbakers Lures? Success or failure? This is a local made brand here and wondering if anyone has used it and had any success. Making a list for a trip to a trapping supply store soon.

Hawbakers lures have been around for many many years. One of the old time favorite lures.

The brand recently changed ownership and I'm not sure if the original formulas are being followed or not. The original formulas put lots of fur on stretchers.

Great stuff! Used all kinds of there lure for years.

I'm curious as to why you say "this is a local made brand". Interesting.

Red fox gland 100 is a must in my lure bag every year wouldn't trap with out it

Hawbakers was at one time based in Fort Loudon, Pa. They are no longer there, so I guess I should say "a previously local made brand."
I'm about 8 miles from Fort Loudon.

When my son and I started trapping all we used were Hawbaker lures. My friend, who had trapped as a young boy, said that's all his dad ever used. I requested a catalog from them. I loved the old school feel. I sent them a check with my order and got my supplies. Our first few years all we used was red fox 100, Wiley red, big 3, and reddy red urine. Big 3 was a coon lure, but we couldn't keep grey fox away from it. I was so sad when I heard they were selling to Sterling. I wrote Mr. Edwin Hawbaker about a book they sold to see if I could buy one. He sent me the book and a letter. It is one of my cherished trapping talking pieces, along with a Dobbins book I found with Mr. Charles's signature in it. Anyway, Mr. Edwin assured me that Sterling would keep the integrity if the product, and hold true to the time tested formulas. I have found that to be true. I sure do miss my Hawbaker catalog every fall though.

I'm not that experienced and only trap part time, but most of my success has been with Hawbaker Lures. 600 Distance call works for me, as well as 800 Widowmaker. I made some sets with 500 Wiley Red this weekend - I experiment with different lures every year. I have not noticed a quality issue since the Sterling takeover. I have tried other lures, but tend to stick with the brand Iam familiar with. Sad to see Hawbaker relinquish the reins, but glad it didn't go dry. I am a nostalgic creature, and I remember my mentor using Hawbaker lures when I was a kid. The Pennsylvania connection is another plus for me. My 9 year old took responsibility for placing lure at our sets. She will probably follow Hawbaker Lures with me.

All that said, the best lure is the lure you have in your bag. Make clean sets at the right places and you will catch.

i agree with the hammer fox 100 is death to yotes on my line! I just wish it came in bigger container that's weren't so prone to leak! Some day I will buy a pint and make it into a jell lure!

I can't imagine how many critters have been caught off Hawbaker's lures over the years. They have been around for a long time because they work.

Considering the history behind the Hawbaker line it would be foolish not to follow their recipes. I been told the Hawbaker's were very particular about ingredients, including urine. Their long time supplier hasn't sold any to the new owners as of yet. ?????????????

Hawbakers is the Grain Belt Premium of trapping lures. Everybody is out there chasing the latest fancy craft formulation, when the old reliable is still an excellent product!

This kinda has me wondering where the new ingredients are coming from too.

Boy... if they only had 4 oz. bottles...

I always had success with his coon lure and the muskrat lures.
Honestly have never tried the others.
