What company makes the best stove pipe or very good stove pipe for a wood stove? I only heat with wood. The last several years I have been only getting 1 yeas out of my pipe from the stove to the chimney. I dont want the insulated stuff because we get alot of heat from the hot pipe.

Should be a sheet metal fabricator near you. Go there and tell them what size pipe you want. Have them roll it out of 20 or 22 gauge stainless steel. It isn't cheap but will last for decades and is a lot safer than galvanized pipe.

Have you been using the "blued" or black single wall pipe? The blue stuff sure doesn't last very long (about a year), the black is a lot thicker and will last much longer. However, like white17 mentioned, stainless is the way to go. They do manufacture stainless snap-together pipe in the same diameter as the black and blue types; you just have to look a little harder to find it.

The stainless is also MUCH harder steel and consequently a lot harder to snap together. The place I get mine snaps it for me.

I have a double wall pipe in our house. It is an adjustable design that telescopes inside itself and adjusts out to 8 feet. Its been in our house for 10 years now and all we use is wood heat. I like it because it is so easy to install, no cutting or fitting.

Its single walled and looked black but the last two I have replaced only lasted a year so I need to get a better/safer option.

I looked up the stove pipe we have here at home and alias it is stainless on the inside. Going to get a length for the trapline as the stuff I have out there doesn't last a year.

Yukon - I didn't know Canadian tire had that type of telescoping pipe. I can see that being real handy, thanks for the tip.

Look at that............it's a rare day when Bryon learns something from another member here. Usually we are all learning from him.

We have “saf-t” pipe. 22ga, welded seams, every connection option you could need, including telescope that we have installed. It’s been in use for years. Wood heat only here too, sometimes shoving 10+ cord through the fisher. I don’t baby anything and it’s still very solid with not a hint of weakening. It’s not cheap but it isn’t stainless expensive either. In my set up I’m looking to get 25+ years out of it the way it’s holding up.

Ive been using the dura plus system 2 years now...still like new. Single wall black to the ceiling box and triple wall stainless the rest of the way. I think ive got 1200 into the whole set up. Stainless was about 100 a section and the black pipe varies depending on length and speciality. I think the two single wall pieces i used were 30 each.

Im curious how pipes get roached so quick? Also curious how one can burn so much. Or cabin is about 1800 sq ft not including the basement and we burn about 6 cord each year...so far. Not trying to be a smart (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) either.

As mentioned multiple times stainless is the way to go unless you intend to just use it for a year or two. I got a dozen places with stainless as I got fed up years ago replacing constantly. Pays for itself over the years easy. The one thing you need to watch I have found is to stay away from all the different pipe systems sellers have that don't often fit together with each other. I go to a sheet metal fabricator in Fairbanks and he makes up standard old fashion stainless crimped pipe that fits all together with each other. The fancy wood stove stores are often selling these different style and sizes even though they all call it 6" pipe means nothing. They change their brands all the time also and played heck trying to fit them together.

Stanz i was reluctant at first buying a "system" but its worked out so far. They sell it at home depot and many other building supply stores. Its a simpson product. I have an old style metalbestos setup in my shop, it works great too.

I am going to go with SS. I just need to locate a good tin knocker here in Maine. I am not so much concerned about spending a few more bucks I just want it as safe as possible. I dont plan on moving and I will always be using wood to heat so I want it right. I dont quite know why the pipes have not lasted the last two years because I am still burning basically the same wood and about the same 4-5 cord per year.

Might have something to do with how dry your wood is or is not.

I second what Stan mentions about different types of pipes. If you try to connect 20 gauge pipe with 26 gauge, it can be difficult. Different material thickness alters overall dimensions fractionally. Bottom line is get your pipe from the same place.

All of the pipe came from the same store.....junk at best. The wood is dry. Every morning I open her up and clean out the chimney get the place toasty for the lady. Never had a issue until two years ago. Now the pipe only lasts 1 year or so or about 5 cord.
