Maybe it was cropped like a dog's ears while young? It's just too even, and odd of a shape to be a natural mutation. Any scaring on the sides?

It is a natural, just a bit strange to be chewed so symmetrically.

From the pics, it does not appear to be a very big beaver. Looks more like a young of the year so I would not think it had been through a hard freeze to cause that but that was my first though when I first saw the pics.

Have caught hundreds of beaver with chewed tails, but none like this. Many with chunks out, slices and holes, but all asymmetrical. This one was a natural all but perfect match on each side. Used to see Virginia beaver with huge puss balls under the hide, gashes from fighting with green toothpaste like puss. Nasty. Always have to keep you mouth closed and wear glasses for fear of popping them when scraping. I know, that's gross.

I got christened this year by a muskrAt that had a few puss balls in him.

That's a interesting tail going on there.

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

This is speculation but at birth did the moms two teeth slice the tail when mom was chewing away umbilical cord?
