So for 2 years now I have been trying to catch a marten and have had no luck. I was wondering what's a good area for marten and if u guys set on the edge of swamps or right in the thick of a forest?

Right in the thick of the forest! The important habitat factor is “coarse woody debris” (downed logs, stumps, snags, litter) along with relatively dense overhead tree cover and shrubs to provide protective cover for both Marten and their primary prey.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

This. I don't trap them but I see tracks in mature forest, and also in hillier type terrain with swampy low areas they like to use the saddles and connecting ridges to go around those swamps.

That is as good as it gets in MN.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Stay a bit east of there, avoid my “brethren”.

Mature "dense" SPRUCE forest is first choice. Then the edges of waterways are funnels of travel. Breaks from spruce to other forest type is second. Setting on tracks in any snow is helpful as they are habitual animals and have a relatively small home range so they return regularly. I have seen and caught marten from very non-typical habitat thought so if you have snow let their tracks tell you where they are traveling, IMO.

I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.
