Here’s something I thought you all might find interesting. Who all traps them? What do you do with em? These little guys are a big part of my lively hood but out of most people’s norm

Here’s a better picture of a few of them and the reason why they need trapped, you can see all the fresh clipped seedlings

Yes, commonly known as "mountain beaver". No fur value.

I have no clue re either question. As far as I know they are classed as an endangered species which are found on the west side of the Cascade mountains from southern BC to northern California. Here's a short write up about them I found thru a google search:

Length: Adults 24-28 cm (rainieri ssp slightly larger). Mountain Beaver resemble large, overgrown
hamsters or tailless muskrats. While rodents, this primitive genus are not really beavers, but earned the
name from the manner in which they gnaw bark and prune vegetation. The ears and eyes are small, the compact round
body has a short, rudimentary tail. The large, curved front claws are used for digging, grasping, and climbing. The coat is
short and dense, more like that of muskrat than beaver. Colour ranges from grey to brown to a light “blonde” in some
individuals.
Mountain Beaver forage above ground for a wide variety of vegetation. Summers diet includes species of fern

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

They cannot be endangered if trapping is allowed.

They are certainly not endangered in the lower 48 they are an unprotected mammal same as a coyote. They are trapped for damage control purposes due to the extensive damage done on the fresh planted seedlings. As far as table fare I can’t answer that, as far as value goes the skull is worth $2 and the whole specimen if taxidermy quality is worth $10. You can exchange them for mink in the pnw, chop in half and bait a pocket set with each half.

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

They are endangered but only in california, could be in BC also, to the best of my knowledge. Just checking Skulls Unlimited. They do not have, maybe sell, real MB skulls. They have replicas at $71. $2 raw seems a bit low to me as they are the only species in their genus's and are limited in quantity If I had them on my table during my summer venues I would be asking at least $35 due to the rarity..
