Don't shoot in the head,(if you have to shoot at all).Shoot in the chest and do exactly like wetdog said.plug the hole. Best to use other methods besides shooting. Also best to hang fur for a day or two before skinning(unless its warm out). This allows the fur to dry and blood to coagulate somewhat lessening any excessive blood when skinning around the head.

Dispatch them with a Death Ray. When you are skinning them, skin down until you pull the front shoulders through. The artery that everybody hits is the one that runs down the side of the neck. After you pull the front shoulders through, take the coyote off the gambrel, turn it upside down, put a golf ball inside the fur, and hook an adjustable cable around the golf ball. You will now have the coyote hanging by the fur, and as you skin the head out, the weight of the carcass will help pull the face as you skin. Any blood will run down the carcass and you will have a blood free fur. No washing necessary, just brush it out and flesh.

James I hang fur for a day or two when its below 10c,refrig temps are around 5c.
Here is a little tip,If you get some blood in the fur, dilute it well with a spray bottle of water, then pat with a dry rag. When it dries it wont matt, and can be combed out with a bit of borax.Way less work than washing a whole hide.

Get the hide off as soon as possible then you can let It hang for days. I use the 410 and that small #4 shot does the job with out lots of blood. Stand back 20 feet and let er rip.

I don't really worrying about getting blood on the pelt while dispatching or skinning. I simply hand wash excessive blood clot areas, wiped the area as dry as possible with a rag then board the pelt as usual. Once the skin has dried and the fur turned out I work considerable dry borax powder into the stained areas, let set for 10-15 minutes and then comb, brush, and shake the borax out. Using this borax treatment method works extremely well ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2018/11/full-12152-429311-before.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2018/11/full-12152-429312-after_borax.jpg) . As well as removing blood stains the borax also cleans and brightens the fur.

Well I'm sticking with the 410 It works for me. I use to tap a fox or coyote then straddle It and break It's neck. I'm not doing that anymore.
