The Pennsylvania guys have their PA deer rifle opener thread, I thought I would start one for us Ohio guys.

The weather was pretty terrible here today. There was rain and 30 some mile winds to start the day, on top of flooding. I only heard 7 shots this morning instead of the normal 40 to 50. This afternoon, the rain turned to heavy coating snow. I shot a button buck that was quartering away at 4:20pm. It only has an entrance wound. It quickly fell 3 times and then stayed down.

How are the rest of you Ohio guys doing?

Got a doe last evening with my bow. So I passed up on a group of does today. Came out of the woods just as it was getting nasty.

So wet here I'm gonna have to upgrade to flippers before long.

My brother took a small 8 off my place today. I sat till noon. Soaked through. Took my son truck shopping in the afternoon.

I might go sit in the morning. All my traps are under a BUNCH of water. Plus if the creek floods it will push the deer out of the bottoms areas.

Rained pretty hard until late morning then turned to heavy, wet snow with a pretty good wind. I told my grand daughter that when I was young I used to go out in that kind of weather and have fun. Now, at 67, I can't get up the enthusiasm to go out in that kind of weather.

Similar weather for me too. Saw a few does in the morning. Then late morning, I found a small buck in his bed. Went in to get dried out and start over. All afternoon the wind blew from every direction. Penetrating cold and saw only a house cat.

Windy here again this morning with some attention getting gusts.

Really windy yesterday mornin. Had a grey squirrel barking at me for awhile. Then it went up the tree I was leaning up against, started barking again. I looked up and saw this

No luck today or yesterday. No help from the biggest group hunting the farm we hunt to get deer moving. Read this as they never came out of their campers.

I am going to go sit in my stand at around 4:00pm today. I stayed in this morning.

The button buck I shot yesterday had an entrance wound on his right side about 6 inches behind the shoulder. The slug went through the liver and low through the left shoulder, but was held in by the hide. The liver was almost completely demolished. Some lead peeled off and stayed in the left shoulder. It's strange how the bullets travel through the body. I shot a buck one time through the heart on the left side and the slug ended up just under the skin on the opposite knee.

Opening day count down nearly 9000 from last year.

I don't see it getting better. Miles of standing corn around here and heavy rain for Sat and Sun. Would take a boat to get across the smallest creeks around here.

Good gravy, I need to hunt Ohio!!

There were 22,366 deer killed on opening day in Ohio last year. That over 40% fewer deer this year. I wonder if they will extend gun season, like they sometimes do to up the harvest?
