I had two ground castors in appx 1 lb of meat... made a flashy step down and dirt hole set. I caught the cat on a scent post with Caven's Feline Fix... all (3) sets were within 20 yards of each other. That tells me I should let the experts... be the experts. Negative on that...All that says, is that there are other ingredients besides castor in those lures...that's all.

That tells me I should let the experts... be the experts. So what would you tell the folks who do much better using their own bait&lure vs commercial supah leet bait &lure? JMO, but lots and lots of variables.....

Thanks guys. I'll definitely be sticking with it. What have I got to lose? If it doesn't ever work, there's always Cavens. If it does, I'll be happy. That's the spirit! I also don't know anyone who was engineered by birth to be an "EXPERT" at anything. I believe "practice, dedication and determination to accomplish what one sets out to do, is what sets them apart from the rest. When it comes to stuff like this, don't let others dictate or discourage you from doing something you enjoy. Follow for too long and you'll never lead. Test all the time year round rain, snow and shine, you'll learn from the mistakes along the way. Take it for what it's worth, having an understanding on the animals you're making bait&lure for will put you ahead of the game when "formulating your supah leet bait&lure. You will do well I'm sure. Good luck!

Intent vs Impact Guys I didn’t mean to kick the hornet’s nest and I applaud your efforts in lure formulating, if you have better results with your own recipes- I think that’s awesome. Here’s my reality- In Wisconsin, we draw a Bobcat tag about every 10 years, the likelihood of me stumbling onto a better bait or gland lure during that duration – is highly unlikely, I would rather burn calories trapping. Yes, everyone starts in the same place, June, Cavens, Dobbins’, Lenon, Weiser, Dunlap and the list goes on, those names have spent hours and sometimes generations formulating those recipes and I personally have a higher success rate capitalizing on their past efforts on certain furbearers. I make a lot of my own lures and I had the privilege of spending many hours in Leo Hoeft’s fur shed in Northern Wisconsin, watching him put up fur and formulate lures, it’s a science, sometimes and art but an immense amount of hard work and dedication. Cat lure is a specialty item for me, you may have time to perfect it, I don’t.
