Is this a serious question? I've never had a coon or grinner break the skin in a dp. What brand are you using?

Must be cabling to tree's,that's the easy way but not good on the animals.

I had soft tissue damage with two different brands, always in the armpit... thinking they got the dog dug in there. Never seen bone damage, except maybe in toes (hard to tell).

Clear area of sticks and entanglements use a rebar or cable stake and damage goes to near zero.

As long as you don't push the stabilizer really deep in the ground. IMO most damage occurs before they can get the traps pulled free of the ground.

Never had a problem with Duke's. This is the main reason I set DP"s without any entanglement

Could always jump over to cage trapping. PITA, but all their bones are intact if nothing reaches for'em on checks.

If you have enough spring tension- entanglement is the only thing I could think of that would cause that.

This the reason DPs come with a fairly short chain. Stake them down. I've had the same issues when cabling off to trees.

Short chains aren't any better on DPs than they are on footholds.

Do you notice this “damage” before or after stuffing his ear with a .22?

I use Duke's as well. I cross steak them in somewhat clear area and haven't had any damage issues.. not from traps anyway, I cause my own damage in the shed..

Clear all the brush around them, that's your problem

Coons are very touchy feely. I have watched them running their free paw up and down the trapped leg. This could explain bad spots on the trapped leg. But broken bones are from entanglement. And some critters just have more fight In them.

Disagree. I added chain to my Dps and had pullouts. Cut them back to shock length and the pullouts went away.

Cabled them to trees and had pullouts and damage.

I also run short chains on my land traps. Ala that Bob fella from Indiana.
