To those that gave their advice thank you. I got a musk rat. He is a good size . I had just set my first pocket set this morning. However he was far from drowned. I gave him a whack and will retrieve in a bit while walking with my boy.

He tore my pocket up though lol. Will reset and re bait.

The cable stake pulled loose during reset annnnd I was not equipped to redrive it. So I'll go back on Monday. The joys of trapping. Here is a pic to show the size of the rat. #2 Bridger.

I would suggest you use wire and attach it to a stake out in deeper water rather then the cable restraint. The size trap you are using would then quickly drown it and not tear up your pocket

Over the years I have caught 4 or 5 muskrats while I was pushing a conibear trap into a muskrat run. In the days of huge rat populations we would check our traps 2 hours after sunset with good catches followed by more good catches in the morning check.

u haven't lived til ya been standin there with a 330 puttin it in and see a beaver comin.have saw 2 caught in my years and was amazed both times.

yeah,but with our limit over here i release quite a few and that can really make a guy drip water.
