Hi all, first poster here. I'm new to trapping and even newer to trapping beaver. Not only am I interested in learning how to trap the buggers, but my family pond is infested and they are really doing a number to the trees along the pond edge and neighboring stream so I have a special interest. I am one to spend the extra money up front and get something of quality that requires little tinkering, and have settled on either the MB-1216-JC or the Belisle #330 Super X. Both seem to be solid traps and aside from breaking my arm in one, I am confident they will serve me well. My main concern is the size. The Mb is 12x16 while the Belisle is 10x10. I am mostly using on pond edges and maybe several sets along the stream, but are there any opinions/preferences/advice anyone could give on which one they prefer based on experience? Thanks a lot guys! I've learned so much from reading and am looking forward to some responses.
-Andy

The 1216 is more of a specialty trap to me. Certainly useful in spots where you have wide channels, dam breaks or really old lodge entrances. I do fine with my belisles and if the beaver want to play games and try to set the traps off with their feet or tails, they will be waiting on me in the morning.

Both work well. I keep a couple 12x16s on hand for certain areas...but If I were to guess, I'd say if your trying to eliminate every beaver out of your pond, the last one or two will have figured those square traps out and you'll have to get those last ones with something else... like a foothold.
