Set up an very active lodge today. Set 4 330's side by side in front of the only opening with blocking sticks between them. Also set 2 bank dens. How long should I wait before checking?

We have a 24hr check law, so I would just come back the next day.

I’d check them as early as you can, in order to prevent educating the others.

We have to check submerged body grip by the 3rd day but I would check a set up like you made daily for at least a couple of checks or as long as I was catching every day. When the catch slows down, I would then ship a day or 2.

Give the traps a chance to work,2-3 days would be good.Hard to tell by the pic but they look a bit far out in front of the den entrance.

Probably 5 to 6 feet out. Only had 4 coni stands left so it worked to use clump of grass to span the entrance. I will check tomorrow morning. Might pull one of the bank den sets and move traps closer. We have to check every 72 hours on submerged conibears. Once there is ice the required check time goes away. The one bank den I found by breaking through while walking so the whole in the ice was pretty large. Hopefully the beaver hits the trap leaving the den or the coyotes might get it.

Both traps that were set in front of bank dens had nothing in them. All 4 traps on the main lodge entrance were sprung. 3 had beavers. 2 were kits and the other was a very long skinny adult. Reset those 4 a little closer to the lodge (shallower) because 1 of the small beaver tried going over the trap and was caught by the back leg. Moved 1 of bank den traps by the other one and fully blocked the run. Will recheck Wednesday.

Nice

You may think before you act. The question is did you listen to your own council?

Prime winter pelts and top notch coyote/cat bait too.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Not to bad. Like trapper les always says. Only set as many traps as beaver that you want to clean. I only have 6 traps set. Car has a lot of room in it.

I don't trap cats or coyotes. No cats in my area and never tried for coyotes.

4 for 4 on the traps at the lodges front door today. A few more to get out of this lodge before moving traps to the next lodge.

Thanks Boco, I learned this approach from one of your posts!!

Glad its working for you, dakidsmn.I see you used the blocking sticks between the traps, that is the critical element to setting like that so all the traps produce.

Good use of an otter hauling those beaver out. I hate the cabelias one I have the pail indents always find the one stick poking up to stop you dead when hauling

maybe roll them in the snow to dry off a little, and use a cloth so the hair does not freeze to the sled and pull off on the sled.

I missed this thread, But, nice haul. I've been bringing along a couple fur bags with me for what ever I catch, including one for skunks, should that happen. Keeps wet fur from sticking to anything that could damage it.
