You are being tested Redsleeves! And failing!

Yukon254, I know guiding is your livelihood, and lots of people require your services, and it is required in some areas....I guess for myself I just cant grasp the concept. How sideways is a persons lifestyle that they need to pay huge money just to "kill" a critter. Question..., since we have sort of determined that killing a critter is part of the overall picture of "harvesting" one, do sport and trophy hunters call what they do "harvesting" or "killing"?

I can't see paying for a $7000.00 moose hunt, having a guide show you how, where, and what, and then you pull the trigger, get the critter out and ship it to a butcher/ taxidermist akin to a farmer doing the same for his crop...I know the experience is what they pay for, but I would never pay what they do, and still call it "harvesting"

Yes, you "harvested" it I guess by definition, but...it just seems different from what Ryan or even Redsleeves claim to do. Are both considered harvesting?

I have no real opinion, it just seems like two different worlds using the same term. Maybe the term is all encompassing...

Well Hutchy, it ain't just people paying for a guide that spend way more money and time harvesting than the end product is worth. Fishing, Hunting, or trapping.

Your comment probably covered 90 % plus of the harvesters.

I think that "harvest" sort of implies that you'll come out ahead.

In the case of the $7,000 moose hunt, I would say that the guide is doing the harvesting, when the client is ripe. If not for the moose, there would be no client to harvest.
