I'm formerly a Rockville trapper...and Ross is out near Easton/Cambridge. Have you asked on the MD Trappers site? Been to their convention in Boonsboro?...that will hook you up with some for sure.

Good to know there's more trappers in Marylander. This is my 2nd year of trapping. I have not been to any of the trappers conventions as of yet. I will check into the MD trappers site. Seems like the replies here are from trappers east of Frederick county. I'm in Washington county and don't personally know any local trappers. Hopefully that will change. I just thought it would be good to hear what closer to home trappers are doing and how their season is going. It's helpful to hear from all trappers from all over, but sometimes local info is even better.

Im from Washington county myself. Mainly concentrate on coyotes in these western Maryland hills. Having any success with coyotes this year? I target coyotes and raccoons. I'm catching raccoons but not so good on coyotes yet. I'm still in that "learning curve" for coyotes.

I got one this year too. I might catch another if I could keep the fox out of the sets. Oppossum1, you should contact the MD Fur Trappers and join. They can provide you with a list of all the trappers in your area. Once you contact some you can do a ride along with them. Great way to learn.

Another Maryland trapper here, I'm in southwest Frederick County. Primarily a land trapper, focus on fox and coyote. This year has been rough with almost every field holding standing water. What part of Washington county are you in?

Clear Spring area. Been wet and muddy here too. Starting to get some dry places now though. I only trap on land, no water trapping.

Real familiar with your area. I live near Brunswick. One guy I know near clear spring says hes covered up with coyotes. Next August make sure to attend the MD fur trappers convention at the Washington County ag center. In this weather and mud I've found peat moss is your friend!

Thanks stoney for your advice. I will plan to be at the MD fur trappers convention next year. Never been to any trappers convention so it will be new to me. Here we can hear coyotes howling/barking after dark 1 or 2 nights a week. Do you use peat moss from Lowes, Home Depot, etc.? Had a coyote put his foot on a trap pan a couple weeks ago, track was right on center but trap didn't trip. When I checked it, mud had washed into set. Had an extra 1/2" or more dirt/mud over trap from the heavy rain we had been getting.

Stay in touch and I'll see you at the convention this summer. Peat moss is just a bale I bought at tractor supply this summer, so if you can find some grab it up. The first year I trapped I had a similar experience to yours. This year I've caught fox on nights I never thought my traps should fire just because of the peat.
