Are there any good commercial cubby traps you guys would recommend for bobcats or am I better off making my own? If buying (or building for that matter), what size? Anything else I should know?

Old 30 gallon long drums, plastic culvert pipe heck even a burnt out stump or 1/2 of one depending on how big it is!

Wire and burlap. Should have made it a foot longer and a foot taller.

I made a set very similar to this yesterday. The barrel was handy and had a fresh cat track going through. We'll see.

That barrel trick is neat. What kind of set do you make inside the 30 gl barrel?

Two MB 550s in front of the barrel. Bedded in waxed sand, topped with peat moss.

I have a similar set but with spruce limbs forming the cubby. I also put the trap out in the front so if it doesn't go in at least I have a chance when it comes up to it. I went back about 18"

I've seen them made with thirty gallon black plastic garbage cans and a load of dry dirt inside. Bed traps just inside and bait in far back.
You can stack a bunch of the light plastic cans together in back of a vehicle then have five gallon bucket of dry dirt to put in bottom (side) for bedding and comfort to walk in. Helps hold the can down too. A bunch of dead branches over it finished off the cubby.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I set outside at the lip of the can, cats too often take a peek and move on a #3L/S with a PIT pan setup or a MJ covered with waxed dirt is the way I go. You can use the short 30s but then I only open 1 end then. I like the 30 gallon longs as it funnels the cat to the trap that way and a trap goes at both ends.

Plastic culvers they use to dry grain here then some end up in the dump work as cubbies also just cut a piece about 3 foot long and drill a stake hole and you have a sweet cubby. That black really sticks out in the snow also cats love shadows that stand out.

I have several cubby sets out, most of them being natural features I can brush in. I have a cubby set along a stream that feeds a beaver flowage. I had cat and fisher sign running right along the edge of the water so I found a good spot for a natural cubby and put it in. What I didn't take into consideration at the time was that the stream would eventually freeze over. Found this on todays check. Made last night or this morning. The cat walked the frozen stream and missed my set by about fifteen yards. I can't believe the amount of cat sign I'm seeing but I still haven't manage to connect.

The smaller ones funnel them to the trap better less room for error!

I got 2 55 gl metal barrels. What's the trick to remove the end(s)?
