While photographing waterfowl from a distance in the creek near my house around noon today, this fellow surfaced heading upstream into the current. I lost sight of it when it disappeared under a dock in front of me. I have seen mink swimming at different times of the day and in different seasons along this creek over the years, but today was the first time I was able catch one on camera.

That brief session made my day.

Jonathan

Great pic...That duck didn't seem to afraid, or was that a decoy ?

Jonathan Wow that is an awesome group of pictures of an animal not often seen during the daylight. Several years ago I was deer hunting near a small stream On the one side was an overgrown pasture and the other side was a strip covered with briars . I saw something black approaching . My first thought was a cat than it entered the water .It was a mink and it was swimming downstream with a small dead cottontail rabbit in it's mouth . Thank for your pictures

Is it carrying something in it's mouth? By the way great capture of the moment.

Awesome pictures Jonathan, thanks for posting.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Always see them moving along the shoreline but never for a long distance swim.

What's the old phrase about trapping mink; "time to quit trapping and is when you send a Christmas card to them"

Cool captures Jonathan, as usual. Mink always swim like corks, with most of their bodies above the waterline. It surprises me, considering they are also good at underwater swimming. They tool along looking quite buoyant.
