Buckle is a repop, I have 5 of them. I also have the original to compare to. I told the seller when it first came on.

Hmmmmm!... All three of the $29.99 belt buckles sold within a hour of this post.... And all to the same buyer.. laugh laugh laugh
Seller lists these on a pretty regular basis though...

Also interesting. Note the transactions number and date on these three... wink

Bill, Three for 100$ is a lot better than the one that is now at $127... I just had my doubts about these being the originals and wanted to give a heads up to any members bidding on the high dollar one..

Dale, Gotcha, personally I wouldn't no the difference between a real one or a nock off, so there is no way I was gonna bid on the one, I bought them cause I liked them and so will the other trappers in my family, and yes I thought 3 for a hundred was better than the other option, thanks again for the heads up Bill

Dale, I know where there are a couple of originals that would look really good on you!

I have nothing clever to put here.

Rob, I would gladly give you 30$ each and would even walk to pick them up....

I originally posted this to let folks know (as bigmac2 stated) that there are reproduction ones out there. Tried to do it politely without bashing the ebay sellers. Looks like all I did was send a bunch of business to the guy in Texas. I think he sold more in the last day than he has all year. At least he had them listed in the belt buckle section and priced accordingly.

Now the other seller that listed in the vintage trap section is, In My Opinion, being deceptive . That last link I posted above shows a buyer that bought 3 of these for $29.99 and that feedback number matches this sellers feedback number. Coincidence????

I think I will start calling you Dick Tracy. That is REALLY paying attention to details! One of my buckles is new, unworn. The other is WELL used and needs a little minor repair. I believe we both know where that one came from and I hope to be man enough to wear it one day.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I sent a picture to dale. The casting and lettering on the original is much sharper, especially on the back.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Here we go again. There was another belt buckle on ebay that looked better except for what appeared to have a ding on the front. It looked good so I bought it. Lo and behold the same seller listed another with the same casting flaw on the front. I contacted the seller and he is refunding my money and doesn't think these are reproductions. The last one on ebay that was a lousy reproduction sold for around $155 with shipping. These look much better, except for the casting flaw on front.

$30 is cheap enough for a buckle even if it is a counterfeit but selling it as an original is a little unscrupulous.

The hits just keep on coming with these buckles and over the years alot of people have been screwed with this novelty that's what I call it I don't think there's anything collectable about them..at least they could've got the patent date right on them

Can someone post a good picture of the real buckle front and back? Large picture so details can be seen? Other than "The lettering is sharp" is there any way to know that a buckle is a repro or not? Interested in knowing as I have had one of these for quite a few years. Put away and never worn because it was pewter.

Still waiting to have someone, anyone, throw up a photo of a REAL one. Good, focused pictures, front and back, so the differences can be seen whatever they are. One that is real .. and ... how do you KNOW personally it is real?

Here are photos of the original Newhouse #4 1/2 belt buckle made in 1981. Notice the quality of the casting, it is crisp with no flaws. Also, I will point out that the patent date on all of these buckles is incorrect. It should read "SEPT. 26, 1911", not 28. I do not have any of the reproduction buckles but I will post photos for comparison.

These are the buckles currently on Ebay, the quality is much better but they are repo buckles also. You have to look much closer but there are still casting flaws.

the repop buckles are poor metal quality and not as thick...original metal is much harder can not bend with your hands..repops you can bend and damage very easily..

Not sure how to post picks. I have one of the originals. The little bumps throughout are perfect. Not so on the others.

Thank you for posting this. Would be nice if they were high resolution ones that you could enlarge to see detail. Handy to have these available so comparisons can be made when they do show up.
