I was turning a red fox pelt the other day after drying overnight (obviously too dry). Got halfway turned and tore about 8" of belly and side. Once it started it went like a cracked windshield! I pushed it back flesh side out and sewed LOOSELY, so as not to tear the thread through the needle holes in the skin, with normal sewing thread to keep it from tearing anymore then went ahead and turned and boarded like normal. Question is: I'm planning on having it tanned at Moyle's but am wondering if the sewing job will hold up through the tanning process or is there a chance it'll rip in half? I was thinking of rehydrating with a cold, wet (damp) towel stuck inside, turn back flesh side out, rehydrate in refrigerator with damp towel until skin is soft enough to sew tightly with dental floss and then start the drying, turning over again. Anyone do this before, am I out of luck, or is there another way? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
