Ok here’s the scenario, a two track road between small pines one one side and broomsedge and small pines set back about 50 yards on the other side. The road has high spots that plateau out and it low spots that basically do the same. Grass is constant so no identifiable tracks, just setting where I can during quail season.
Question is do you hit the high spots or low spots for coyotes. Yes coyotes have been seen traveling this particular road, assuming hunting in the small pines. This area is also blocked and grass/broomsedge fairly high. Great quail, rabbit, deer areas.

Set right where you see tracks and scat, they will be back.

There’s the problem...all grass. No tracks to be seen.

I like high spots where creeks come out to an edge say like a field or a meadow. I like the low spots between two areas of interest. Such as the low spot between two areas of timber where they can move undetected. Coyotes will travel both high and low. I seem to have more consistent catches in the low spots, but weather can be a factor.

If it is only you in the area, then set the road as that is your location.
Coyotes by design do not travel high, as they seek the swales to get over and behind hills to not be shot at.
If you have to set off the road a bit, then look for convergences of your high or low in crossing the road, preferably with a vertical appeal to draw the eye to, as a tree, rock, tall weeds etc...
if you can you can, you can cut out a circle of grass in the tall stuff just off the road or next to the tree line, to hide your catch and get on location fast.
