Anyone know if these or anything like them is available anymore ? Mine are about worn out. I got mine right from Cathy but that was years ago. I remember Cold Spot used to keep lots of them in stock.

Ms. Steger owns a company that makes them in my neighborhood out of moose. Google her last name and you'll find them.

Hmmm ... if I recall it seems like my old Sun Dog's were made by someone in Delta ? Been a long time back though.

Cathy made 3 hats for my wife and kids, but like you said Dave, that was years ago. I was wondering if she was
still is business. Wasn't she living in Tanana ?

Yeah maybe, I think I got mine in '75-76 and it sticks in my head that at that time it was
someone out of Delta selling them.
Maybe Nate knows.
Yes, they were great alright once you put some 'sole saver' on the bottoms !! I still got my pair but they got more patches
than original canvas.

Ken, the ones Im talking about were made by Cathy Flirus up in Nenana. Im not sure if I got the spelling right on her last name. Her husbands name was Bill, and they sold a lot of their mukluks to dog mushers. Cold Spot in Fairbanks used to carry them.

chickenminer, you could be right, maybe it was Tananna ??

73? Did you get your moneys worth? Almost 50 years on a pair of boots.

I have nothing clever to put here.

This post is right up my alley as Cathy and Bill Fliris lived on the Tozitna River for years which was 40 trail miles north of Tanana. As one of her neighbors on the "Tozi", I and the other trappers in Tanana and her husband Bill especially, were her testing grounds. She moved years ago and it was a loss as outdoor gear tough and proper fitting enough is hard to come by. Some families make some good stuff but getting them to make enough to supply out of the family people is hard. She made the moccasins with bare soles and originally gave you a tube of shoe goo with them and latter would coat with sole saver and then had soles made similar to Neo Boots (which is what I use since Cathy left) and glue on herself. Last year someone in town sold me a virtually new Parka she made similar to what I have been wearing for 20 years. Lucky me. Still have an old pair of her moccasins but I kinda save them for real cold times.
By the way anyone wanting to have a glue similar to shoe goo but 100 times more durable check out AguaSeal. Sold at Prospector and Amazon. It'll do a lifetime repair on leather goods and where rubber boots flex and crack and it'll glue a sole on forever.

Any idea where they moved to Stan? I met them once years ago when I was running dogs. Bruce Johnson, a good friend of mine knew them well, and he always got stuff from her to test on the Iditarod or Quest too. I only wear mine in real cold weather too. Last winter that was daily. Good info on the AguaSeal, going to order some.

Jacks, looks like those Tozi wear mukluks are a thing of the past. There is a company down your way called Empire Wool and Canvas that makes a boot that is similar. You have to order them at least a year in advance, and they are eye popping expensive, but they look like they would be a good winter shoe.

Thanks for the update. Real loss that she is no longer in the business.

Cathy and Bill moved to Wyoming. Bill died in a boating accident there. Cathy is living in Washington state now but has visited Tanana recently. She has a Facebook page. Now that I think about it sometimes I'd wear her moccasins, parka, big mitts and hat all at the same time. We could trade fur for clothing. I hated sewing.
