I need some recommendations on a good snare for bobcats. In KY we have to use single piece locks and no kill springs allowed. This means no cam locks as they are made from more than one piece. I can allow the cat to entangle and plan to. Just wondering what some good aggressive single piece locks are? Also what size cable? Everything I have now is 3/32" because we have tons of coon and coyotes. I can avoid the coyotes but the coons seem to get into snares regardless of how I set them. Thanks!

Check out the Lopro locks. They are a one piece relaxing lock. I use them on 1/16” cable.

Micro lock and 1/16th cable.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.

Great combo, my preferred too. 7x7 cable.

Right now I am using Slim Locks as that is what I had. If go down to 1/16 cable will it put a coyote down before they can break or chew it off? I have my cat snares in some thick nasty regrowth. Tons of saplings to entangle in. Right now I have a 36" snare on a 5 foot extension. Loops are 6-7" and height depends on the opening through the brush. I usually put conibears on these trails but lost a cat that pawed the trigger so I went to snares. Have taken a couple cats in the past few years in 220s along with some monster coon out of this thicket. I know if I neck snare a coon it will be over once it tries to climb a tree, but what about a body snared coon, will it get out of the 1/16 cable? Sorry for all the questions but I don't snare much other than beaver due to all the livestock and deer we have in my area.

I have used 5/64 1x19 with slim locks for several years on yotes & beavers with great success

You will lose coyotes and coons with 1/16"-some foxes too.1/16" is good for cats but I only use 5/64" for them now,due to quite a few fox and coon losses, many years ago.

Do you have to use a deer stop on your snares? If not 1/16 may be ok but I'd still use at least 5/64 if there is a chance of anything besides a cat. Cable left a coon or coyote that chewed out is not desirable, it doesn't always treat them well.

The BMI mini lock is the most aggressive single piece lock I have ever used. (very fast and smooth on loaded cable as well.)
