I am running cables in tall grass and swamps for coyotes and notice that after a catch there are tracks in the catch circle from other coyotes coming in to smell. I'm wondering if it would be worth setting a #2 trap in the catch circle as a blind set and hope that a coyote steps on the pan. I would attach it to the existing anchor and then bed in waxed dirt. Is this worth it or a waste of time?

If there is snow, I bed a trap under a track coming to the catch circle.

No reason it wouldn't work but I prefer to just set another snare in the trail leading to the catch circle. I intentionally set my first snare closest to the area I think the coyote is going to, so on the remake I can set the trail further back BEFORE they get to the catch circle.

I understand what you are saying ADC but some of my spots are on the edges of fields so I can't go back any more due to entanglement.

you can put a dirthole on downwind edge of circle with bait, that works too.

In that case the dirthole on or near the catch circle is a good option IMO.

I feel your pain.

I've thought of doing that but trying to keep that trap operational In your country might be more trouble then It's worth. Get on those coyote's tracks and find a spot to hang a CR.

I agree, so far i only caught 6 in the last 3 weeks and only have cables out. No traps. The weather this last month sucks. I usually only run blind sets this time of year with footholds but it will not snow and stay cold so cables it is for now.

I have often thought of doing this too. Seems like some of those circles have a track every square inch a week after the initial catch is made. If I where to do it I think I'd fluff up the grass and make it somewhat of a walk through set. At least that way you can narrow down his path a bit increasing your odds of connecting. Probably going to have to bed in waxed dirt. Or basically make a hay set with the debris. Should definitely work tho!

Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine!
