Which states have trap check law and which don't? There is legislation introduced to make a mandatory 48 hour trap check in ND. ND G&F says ND is the only state without a trap check law. I do not feel that is correct. Not that it will make much difference in the out outcome of this. Just woundering.

1 A BILL for an Act to create and enact a new section to chapter 20.1-07 of the North Dakota

2 Century Code, relating to duty to check traps and snares; and to provide a penalty.


3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF NORTH DAKOTA:


4 SECTION 1. A new section to chapter 20.1-07 of the North Dakota Century Code is created

5 and enacted as follows:

6 Duty to check traps and snares.

7 An individual who sets or lays any trap or snare for a fur - bearing animal shall check the trap

8 or snare at least once every forty - eight hours.

Nebraska's used to be every 24 hrs, for non-drowning sets and 48 hrs for drowning sets, now it's 1 day for non-drowning sets and 2 days for drowning sets. It's better for the law to say a number of days rather than a number of hours. If the law says 24 hrs, it's eay to violate the law. If you check one day at 7am, and the next day at 8am, you've let 25 hrs slip by between checks and you're now a filthy criminal deserving of punishment.

I believe only three states - Alaska, North Dakota, and Montana.
Montana is under the gun for a 24 hr check, Trap Free Montana is the push behind this one.

Montana FWP has been taking anti views from out of state and out of the country in their process of decision making.

Ohio is "daily"

Indiana and Illinois have daily, I think it's 24 hour in both, but don't hold me to it.

Delaware and Maryland do.

NY is 24 hours

24 hours East River 36 hours West River here in SD and 5 days under the ice the last time I checked.

Alaska has no tending regulations.

Idaho has a 72-hour reg. on everything.

Montana currently has no tending laws, except for wolves, and that's 48 hours.

Kansas regulations says must be tended and inspected at least once every day.

Wisconsin:

nondrowning set = daily check (exception: weasel box with correct size hole)

drowning set = up to 4 days

under ice set = no set time period

Illinois is ''once each calendar day''

NY has 24hr and 48hr depending on type of set and geographic location...
