For those who have sold green and finished coon already, what sort of prices have you been seeing?

Sold a dozen finished coon for $13.00 average. Not bad, but beats $3.00 carcass coon. High of $20.00, low of $9.00.

I keep my hand in as many people as I can that I know that sell coons. So far this year it's been about a $5 carcass coon market, but I have heard of up to $7 average on carcass with a straight run when the buyer had a meat market involved. Another buyer had a $10-6-3-1 on green coons. The most I have heard on finished coons before Larry's post above is $20 top and $12.50 average on finished coons.

A young trapper friend just sold 6 coon on Saturday. They were early but finished. He got $80 for the six: 4 at $15 and 2 at $10. All were 2X and 3X. That comes out to about $13.30 average.

I just hope my coon sent to NAFA do as well or better.

For the last 12 month everything I've read says only prime heavy to semi heavy 3XL and larger, anything less will be very little to a no sale. However in the last few weeks I'm hearing pretty high prices on green skin coons and 2XL skins. This could be a region thing though as a western heavy will bring more than a Midwestern or eastern semi., I don't know. I released half of what I caught this year to only kept the 3XL and 4XL.

I still have a half dozen 2X and 3X Select, Label, and #1 coon and a couple reds at NAFA from last year. I’m hoping they go soon. Anyway, if we’re looking at $12-13.50 on earlies, this might be a good year to have been in the game.

Teacher;
I think maybe you should have sold to that same buyer instead of shipping. At least have given them a chance to buy.

I’ve sold locally and almost always to the same company for almost 30 years. We tried NAFA 3-4 years ago. At that time it was mostly coon. Locally, coon were averaging $14. We averaged over $19 at NAFA and that was after commission.

On the upside, if I don’t have time to put up, I’ll sell locally and get a flat rate for anything the buyer determines as large. I’ll get a check right then too. But last year the top locally for averages was about $7 and we did $11 at NAFA after commission. I can do better at NAFA as long as I accept the fact that there is a commission bite and not everything sells right away.

At this point I’m not as dependent on the money as this young man was. And I don’t begrudge the local buyer from making money too. I’ve just decided to shop my coyotes around a bit because I know I can do better than what’s being paid locally and sending a few coon up just sweetens the pot.

Yep. Your local buyer should be profiting close to 30%. Or at least attempt to. But unless you’re getting 100% clearance from NAFA? You don’t have a real average.

I have been really happy with the results I have gotten from NAFA.....I missed the 1/4 pick up as I was out of town, but will make the 3/15 pick up. It's a hobby for me, so I dont mind waiting for the pay check.

Yep, folks will sell to a local buyer with a 30% profit margin and gloat about not paying commission.

Again this is a difficult chat unless the auctions get a 100% clearance. With the current market good luck with that thought.

Yeah. God forbid the fur buyer profits a couple bucks for his time on a $10 coon. Maybe they should all be working for free? I’m sure you’ve never cared about how much your salary was/is?

That's why I don't complain about an auction house taking a commission.

Nafa sold 11 2x labeled coon of mine for $3.55 average at the December giveaway. Could always be worse especially for Mississippi coon lol
