Has anyone used 1/8th inch cable extensions on wolf traps (MB 750)? Many hound hunters around this area (new area to me) so I'm adjusting some of my line for steel to avoid killing a hound. I do have some signs up in my snaring area. I'm running short on funds and getting a late start this season, I have plenty of cable, swivels and ferrules. Will the cable hold up to a wolf caught on the foot? Drag or solid anchor?

Sure it will hold, but you will be changing it out due to kinks.Chain"drags"better.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

I thought they would but with tangling up I wasn't sure. They do fine for snares but they don't fight long if they get caught in one. Thanks. I'll try'em out.

I have a cinch loop made with a double ferule on the end of the 10' of chain attached to the trap. That way i can cinch the cable or chain to a drag or log depending on the situation. I also carry 10' cable extensions also made from 1/8" 7x7 if I am attaching a drag in an open area and want a better chance at entanglement.

Sometimes the cable is twisted or chewed up and has to be replaced. Whatever you do there is always a chance the drag end may end up the focus and get a lot of chewing.
This was frozen green spruce. The temp swung into the upper 40's quickly with heavy wind and rain. She started chewing the log that was following her. It was dark and I walked right by the wolf and tree on my way to the set and didn't notice. After following the faintest tracks across the lake and broken reeds and wood chips for almost an hour I walked right into her. Fortunately that little spruce hung up the chain or I may not have found her in the dark. As can be seen the cable was worked over but not broken. The log had been 3" dia. at the smallest and 10' long. I try not to use that small anymore either.
