Can you explain what you did after you dried them? I usually dry them then grind to a powder and add enough glycerin to make a paste, then add a very small amount of saq oil. When I say small amount I mean maybe less than a 1/4 ounce or less to a pint of castor lure. Of course I don't make huge batches of lure at any one time. I think the most I've made at one time was a gallon. I've never added anything to preserve my castor lure and have never had a problem with it from year to year. Hope this helps.

I re-read my post and it'a confusing- sorry-- I have some that are green (in freezer) and some that are dried. The dried ones have some mold on them but I've done nothing with either yet but I will be.

After getting advice on here, I partially freeze my castors before I grind them then allow to dry for a couple days before I regrind them. It might take me a couple more grinds before I get them to the powdery consistency I like. I like powder for mixing in baits and lures because its uniform. In some lures I will just use some of my straight castor lure which is just castor and glycerin. I use an old universal #2 hand crank grinder to grind all my glands and baits. When I add saq oil its in oil form.

I let my castors dry on a wire for about a month for average castors. Shells require less time. I then grind the castors. Then I put the ground castor on plates with fans blowing on them for 24 hours. Then I scoop the dry ground castor up and run it through my Ninja blender. This gets the castor to about the same consistency as fresh ground coffee. I will pour about a pint of 100 proof vodka over 4 gallons of the castor to prevent mold, and I will let the castor age for 6 months to a year. It develops the most wonderful aroma. It is now ready for lure formulations.

I've never done any on the scale Paul does, but I would definitely follow his recipe if I ever did. I never put my castor close to heat or try to force them to dry to quickly.

Paul. Did I read only one pint of vodka to 4 gallons of castor? Thanks Yes, I also stir it good once a month. It is in a sealed 5 gallon bucket.
