I just made 16 coyote sets on tuesday, now they're calling for 2 feet of snow this saturday/Sunday. I'm debating on covering with plastic ora garbage bag like stated before. Or pull them and reset after the storm?

I just came in from pulling my last few sets. We are getting 10"-12" with 30 mph winds. Calling it a season, fur quality is going down hill so unless you just want to thin them out I say just pull the sets.

I pulled what little bit I had out. Heard we could get up to 8" so not taking chance. However picked up some new ground today so might go back out after I see what happens with weather.

A set trap is a set trap, check with your state's DNR for the trap check interval, and ask them if just covering will do.

Make sure you don't leave one set over 24 hours in your shop, lol. Because it is the law unless you go out and check it everyday.

Guess it depends on whether or not you want to keep your line active. Still got sign?

I am curious what your state considers "checking". If you can cover them, put up a marker stick and check from a distance with glasses for a just in case catch, I'd leave them.

Go get yourself some old shingles and some golden rod stems. Cover the traps well and stake the golden rod stem about 6 feet behind the head of the set. I use the ones that are 3-4 ft tall with a nice head on top.

The shingles or plywood pieces will guard the set well for re activation when conditions allow and the stem will mark your set to find easily for maintenance. No walking around in the snow after white out conditions trying to locate your sets. Things all look the same when some land marks change with a good snow cover.

I mark all sets as soon as I make each one with the rod stems out of habit from many years in speeding up set check locations. I make some sets that I can't find easily at times due to the blending technique that I use at many locations. Running a full day trap check requires management to reset and find sets as quick as can be or you will sacrifice efficiency.

I can get close but often booger the set up by stepping on them while searching.

Thank you guys, I ended up pulling today. I caught 2 reds 1 gray this week and then a 43 pound male today, alot of action around my traps lastnight multiple coyotes but I think we had too much fresh snow yesterday so 1 didn't fire and guides were of no use at that point.

They’ve been talking about this weather system for a week, so I was anxious to get my first sets of the year in earlier this week, as predicted critters were movin good, 3 male coyotes and one pull out in five days trapping I’ll take it.
Time to hibernate for a few days next to the wood stove!

I'm going to be the fool here and I'm keeping my sets in the ground and will run them every day till I can't get to them and then I will pull them. Not sure it's the rite choice but we will see tomorrow morning.

Well I had a rde Friday and Saturday but unfortunately season ended on January 15th so I got to release them. I wish we could use snares or cr's in NH but unfortunately we can't. I did pull all my sets this am tho but might set back up next weekend if the weather looks good.
