Raccoons don't move in this frigid weather.

Do Fox & Yotes move ? or they hunker down too ?

Just a weekend trapper...

The only time I notice a lack of movement (based mostly on tracks), is during and shortly after a heavy snow.
And I know it's not the norm, but I was bowhunting last night and watched a coon trudging through snow as deep as he was tall.

Up here in interior Alaska seems 30 below or colder (just saw a short stretch with a low of 45 below) will definitely slow things down. Also after time animals seem to move regardless as I think they have to to eat. I trap with dogs and after each cold snap the dogs lose some weight, are dehydrated some, and their skin sticks more to their meat. The warm weather and lots of liquid brings them back. The animals I skin right after a cold spell are more like that also. They start to starve but they cannot go without food in that cold for long and so they all travel. The wolves hunt at all temps, the only saving grace for them is moose and caribou are easier to kill at 50 below as they don't like to run alot. I use to like to hunt then also as moose would just run a little each time they saw you and you could usually count on that at around 50 below. At 69 I kinda don't do that much now. During the cold snap we just had I was catching okay marten. I think animals are often taking more chances when things are cold as a trapping set is an easy meal at a time when food is critical. Think alot of animals don't make it through the cold.

Here in GA when it gets really cold (for us anyway) all the critters seem to lay up.

I have better luck when snaring coyotes when it's colder as long as the wind isn't blowing to strong.
