Has anybody else heard about this. I know its just california but its still a part of America. Hopefully people will try to talk to people that knows what actually happens in the trapping industry. Instead of the city people that probably have never shot a gun or even seen a coyote. It just ticks me off.

LOL Sure, they’ll see the real world once some knowledgeable person points it out to them. That idiocraticly ruled state is full of reasonable people. It’ll probably work like pointing out that more gun laws work don’t work on criminals. Sounds to me as if California has nothing to worry about.

Here's a glimmer of hope, each year the Montana Trappers Association along with 4H, the Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks dept hold a Youth Trappers Camp or YTC that is attended by over 100 kids we lead the way in education and have students from all over the country not just Montana. I was a charter instructor and board member. Here's a challenge if you want to help trappers and trapping as a whole how many times have you set up & worked a educational booth at a county fair or a sports show, or even in a classroom they still teach history in school right ? Take some clean traps ( no blood or dirt caught between the jaws ) and some tanned fur to show and some fake fur so they can see first hand which is nicer to the touch, have some informational hand outs to give them education of folks is vitally important to keep trapping & snaring alive and well but we need to inform and educate people about what it is we really do to help control a renewable resource. Yes this takes time money and effort we as a whole cannot sit back and say oh well let someone else do the work and see how well that works, as mentioned above once it's gone you don't get it back. My apologies for saying this is old news,I just read an article about out right banning of trapping in California,I thought the comments were pointing to the foothold trap ban.I wasn't aware of a trapping ban period.This should be watched more closely and our Associations should point this out to their Fish and Game Dept.s.Sure its California and what do you expect but this legislation can spread fast,especially with progressive Democrats gaining power.For you guys with the it can't happen in my state attitude when I started trapping in the mid '70's nobody would have ever thought states like Colorado and Arizona could possibly ban footholds.And look what happen.

I totally agree Buck I started back in the 70's also things have certainly changed in some cases for the better then others not so much. With many folks are removed from the landscape other than a weekend getaway spot in the woods. The last time I went into the grocery store a customer commented that his neighbor lost a dog it just vanished but there were large dog tracks close by, my response was that it sounded like a wolf to me or possibly a mtn lion before the snow had fallen we have plenty of both around here. Things will get much worse if and when trapping and snaring are outlawed or here in Montana the proposed trap check law is passed. There isn't anything wrong with what is in place it's worked well for many years.

That seems like it would be illegal then. If some thing commercial is legal in all the other states, shouldn't it be legal in CA too ?

States can dictate what’s legal or not in their state. It’s what makes our country run the way it does. If they want to ban commercial fur trade and they got the votes to do it, then they can do it. If you don’t like your states laws, move to a new state. Doesn’t matter if we think it’s right or not. It’s the sad reality but I would rather have it that way then single dictator making all the decisions. If it’s what the people want then it’s what they get. All we can worry about is making sure people get to hear the truth about what we do. Of people understand the truth and a majority are against the truth then there’s nothing else we can do but make sure we do everything we can to educate the people around us.
If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

I'm always trying to take kids out. Its funs getting to see them get all excited when they catch something. I'm taking a kid this weekend so hopefully, I'll get him hooked on it.
