My currnet pair have lasted a long time. I have a pair of the other us made cutters w/out the spring-loaded handles but need to replace these. There is a significant price variation (53-80) online. Wondering if there's an alternative brand that is durable and cuts just as cleanly?

No I haven't used the others sorry. I do know these cut 1/8" just fine though. I don't cut a bunch of it but I have made a couple hundred cuts on 1/8" with it. Hundreds and hundreds of cuts on 3/32" .

I use HIT Brand wire rope cutters at my workbench to cut 3/32" and 1/8" cable. I have a cheaper pair (do not remember the brand) of the same style that I carry on the line in the event that I need to cut a cable in the field. The Hit are about 1/2 the cost of the C7 and the design is almost identical. They cut very clean.

I’ve used a set of HITs for 2 years now. No complaints here about them.

I've used these when I worked at a custom lighting shop. Work well, just never figured out where to get them before I bought my other pair

I have the C7 cutter and also the Economy Cable Cutter that is on the same website of Hill Top and the C7 I use to cut and make my snares and do cut up to 1/8" cable and the others I use on the trap line and cut the same size cable with out any problems and they are both the first cable cutters I got years ago back in the mid 90's. Hope this helps.

I really like the Compact cable cutters. Have had and used them for a long time. They fit well into your pants pocket so as not to loose them and allow you to cut close to the lock near the skin when cutting the cable with minimal fur damage. Hardly use the C7 cutters. I have them but prefer CC cutters.
