I have about a gallon of fresh ground beaver that I have tainting. it's actually on day 3 at roughly 65-70 degrees (indoor shop). I have it inside of an ice cream bucket placed inside an ice chest. Couple of questions...in general how many days would you think it would need before adding sodium benz at that temperature? I would like it tainted enough for coyotes but not so much it is unattractive to cats. I have read it can continue to taint for a week after preserving. Also I have some castor, some muskrat oil and some skunk quill. For a gallon of meat what (if any) of those would you add and would you add before you add the Sod Benz or after...or does it matter?? Any generalities on how much of those to add? My average temp range for trapping is generally 35 degrees at night with 55 degree daytime highs.

My base sits all summer long in the heat and is still attractive to cats. Going on the 11th season,it has stood the test of time and controversy,

Add the extra ingredients before the SB.

You better dump that ice cream bucket into a 5 gallon pail. As it starts tainting, it will grow. If your ice cream bucket was full, you'll have problems. And...it's easier to mix in the 5 gal pail. And, you'll be doing plenty of that.

3 weeks at that temp, and you'll have a nice taint. 4 would be alright, too.

In my experience it seems after you stop the tainting the smell is milder than you thought it would be. So let it go a little longer than you think. I kind of lean to the heavier taint myself but I'm kind of new at it.
