I'm thinking they were made by a couple of dogs...
The trail stayed down in a small creek... never went up on the bank for several yards. Investigated every nook and cranny and looks like they rolled around on the ice...
I know a guy near here who has beagles and has some pups he lets run around - that's why I say dogs.

Otter - REALLY!?!?
I kinda thought otter because of the spots that looked rolled around on. I know those critters are built low to the ground - I know they're around here but have never caught one.
This is a small creek - not much water running right now but has some good pools. All the minnows have gone to deeper water so that's why I thought dogs...

Osky - I'd say they (looked like 2 distinct sets of track going the same direction) traveled around 75 yards. I quit following the tracks after that, but the trail never did come out of the creek and up on the bank where I followed them. Just stayed on the ice and hit exposed rocks where there was no ice or the water was low...

Well... this is cool! Thanks fellas!

Headed to the Trapping Archives!

I've never seen an otter track in person, but can say for sure, "that ain't no dog".

It looks like an otter track but I do not recall,an otter traveling that far over ice without sliding. The one spot looks like a roll. Maybe the slide areas were not shown, and maybe I'm wrong?

well you have now otters are easy to distinguish tracks are in groups of four and slanted a lot of times you will see tail drag marks as well. at a quick glance in snow they do resemble beagle tracks

Otters are on the move right now looking for mates. They'll go up many small creeks in their search. Its a good time to put 280s or 330s in choke points on small streams.

There is some ice but a lot of places where the rocks are showing so that may be why no slide marks. Not a lot to slide on before they would hit some rocks in the creek bed.
This is in the Shawnee Natl Forest 8 miles N of the KY state line (Ohio River)

Osky,
Here's a shot of the creek today where I discovered the tracks. It has warmed up into the 50's - 2 days ago it was 6 above... What the heck??
The ice is going but the water level is the same - not much room for slide'n...
