Lets here everyones methods on Blending Traps IN Wet Sand? On Flat set, I simply bury the trap, take the dirt and sift it, just like Ogorman talks about in his book = Like painting a car fender. I have been in a recent arguement with a fellow trapper, over the LOOK and over all apperance of a flat set = in wet conditions. I told him , it was imposible to carry enough dry dirt for a 16000 acre trapping job. So lets here some opinions on = Blending in Wet Weather?

I think waxed sand looks like wet sand. I think it blends better with wet sand than dry sand.

Never tried waxed sand . The heart of our argument was over LOOKs. In south Alabama, lots of time on a smaller place, I do use dry sand. Sometimes when you put DRY sand over you trap, blend it in, when you leave it looks great, BUT the next day the when the ground around you drys , you are left with a MB-550 size light spot at your set.

I was taught if you cant make the pattern look like the surroundings, make the surroundings look like the pattern. This has worked for me.

You cant make sand match lots of time, when its wet. So what your saying is about how i feel. Just make large pattern of wet dirt.

That's what I do. I like to make those sneaky sets also, but to me location is the most important thing. These are also good locations for p-posts with kick backs.

I will spend the next 30 days blending in sets in wet sand. Looks like about every 3 days for the next month or so their will be some rain. I headed for Clarke County Alabama wednesday. Going to have to work in wet sand one way or another!

I just thought it would be a neat topic to talk about. I always try to make things as natural as possible. But wet sand makes it hard to do. I have heard about people even using a small sprayer to WET the dirt around set to give it a more Aged look. Just want to here from other trappers what they do?

Steeltraps I don’t typically trap in the type of sand that I think your talking about . That being said I do trap in a sugar type sand that does not always blend well . One way I overcome a tough spot is to use chaf of some type , around here the two most prevalent types are bean chaf and what I call flood chaf . I don’t know if you’ve got any soybeans down your way but you may be able to use peanut straw . The flood chaf is what I find in low areas after flood water subsidies, let It dry and rake it up into burlap bags . It is easy to come up with large quantities and can be sifted to remove the bigger sticks and stems. You can easily blend a large or small area, whatever looks best to you !

Brown hand toweling, like you'd find in a public restroom, matches wet sand perfectly. The individual sheets are perfect size
