Since last fall I have noticed an absence of coyotes in central Illinois. Others have commented on it too. With all the snow I though I would see some tracks but there are very few. Some have mentioned Parvo and Canine Distemper. I have not seen any dead ones but I have not seen too many live ones either. Any thoughts?

Same thing here where I am. Couldn't tell ya why. Nobody I've ask can either. Seems to have happened in several places across the US and part of Canada. Soon as the coyote market isn't hot, their numbers will sky-rocket.

I saw 4 coyotes leaving my egg and brooder manure dump the Monday before yesterday at around 4:00am and saw one out my kitchen window running towards my house at around 4:00am, again, on Saturday. It came within 3 feet of my house from the tracks. If we did not have barn cats, I would be setting for them. On the other hand, I might not have barn cats for long, if I don't set for the coyotes. I put my dogs out on the coyote I saw Saturday, but they never got it up. The coyote I saw Saturday, went right by the pole I chain my coyote to when I take her outside. It may be looking for a mate. It looked to be twice her mass. Keith

First year any of my family set for coyote caught 7 in under a hundred yard stretch of ditch. Coons on the other hand have been non existent.

They are migrating to an easier life in Chicago. Coyotes are Democrats?
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo
You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

I killed 81 off my place in the last 11 years. I live on 60 acres west of Peoria. Last season I got one of my place and this year zip. I have seen a few foxes now and more rabbits. Deer died off threes years ago and this last fall.
Golf Ball - you could be right. I talked to another guy who told me Parvo kills most coyotes in the fall when the milk in the coyotes mother runs out of antibodies. He told me it is always in their population and it comes out when there is stress in the population. He also said coyotes will puke and pass blood and be found around water because they will have a fever.
I never saw a dead one but I did have a good number of tracks early then no tracks like everybody left. I set travel ways and ridges and good spots with not even a track. I have had a hay set 400 yards form my house since the 25th of January now with not one track even passing by. I like not having them actually because the deer need the rest. I just wanted to catch some but it has been hit and miss with the poor trapping conditions and low numbers. Some spots I have took 10 coyote out of one trap in a season and now not a track all season. I never saw a pup all fall or winter. All the ones I caught were males and all but on was big - over 40 lbs. I did get one that had not one ounce of fat anywhere on it.
Half my coyotes for the 11 years I have lived here have bad fur with lice or missing all of their guard hair, scratch backs, wounds, bites all over them, ran over by cars, shot with bird shot , arrows, birth defects, ect. Pretty poor bunch of coyotes here not to mention I have seen every color but black ones now. Only three went to the sale this year. Stayed away from the fox - maybe we will have more this coming year. They are nice to watch.
